Award-winning Bike Train returns to North Bay

The award-winning Bike Train Initiative is returning to North Bay for 3 weekends in 2010. After a successful pilot project in 2009, the Bike Train has partnered with Ontario Northland to give cyclists even more options to explore Ontario's Near North. The dates of the North Bay Bike Train are, July 16-18, Aug. 13-16, and Sept. 24-26.

There are a host of events for Bike Train passengers to enjoy, the schedule is included below. Please join us for a photo opportunity as the first Bike Train passengers of the season are welcomed to North Bay on Friday, July 16th.

 

WEEKEND GETAWAY AGENDA:

Friday, July 16, 2010

7:40am—Passengers arrive at Union Station (Great Hall) to check in

8:40am—Ontario Northland/Bike Train departs Union Station

1:50pm—Ontario Northland/Bike Train arrives in North Bay

**1:50-2:30pm—Media Event - Bike Train Welcome Event at train station

2:30pm—Group ride downtown along Lake Nipissing waterfront

(**3:00pm—Hotel Check-in—North Bay**)

6:00pm—Bike Train Cocktail Party at Inn on the Bay (valet bike parking)

9:30am—Group ride leaves Cycleworks lead by local cyclists featuring lunch stop at the Waltonian Inn (Group rides 30 km, 60 km, & 100 km)

Sunday, July 18, 2010   

Morning—Recreational Rides & Touring

12:00pm—Group ride to train station

1:35pm—Bike Train departs North Bay

7:15pm—Arrive in Toronto

ABOUT THE BIKE TRAIN INITIATIVE:

The Bike Train Initiative introduces bike racks onboard select passenger rail trains to destinations across Ontario, making cycling holidays easy and accessible. The initiative is a project of Transportation Options, a nonprofit organization dedicated to stimulating sustainable systems of transportation, and is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Government of Ontario, and Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation, and supported by more than 30 organizations and businesses.
